We recently moved from the San Francisco Bay Area (Delta region) to San Diego. One of our favorite "staycation" activities was exploring the Delta by boat. We don't have our own boat but have been lucky enough to have friends and family who are kind enough to share their adventures with us. If you follow us on Tik Tok or Instagram (@BlissfulLeisureGuide), you've seen the MANY videos posted from the beautiful beaches, tide pools, and bays around the San Diego area. We felt it was time to get out on the water (my happy place). After months of searching and researching boats and boat clubs, there was a $2000 reduction of initiation fee sale for FREEDOM BOAT CLUB and we decided to take the leap and join.
FREEDOM BOAT CLUB is a membership club that offers a variety of different boats to their clients to take out. They are located in 33 states, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia. We joined the FREEDOM BOAT CLUB in San Diego where they have boats at five harbors from Oceanside to Mission Bay, San Diego Bay, and Chula Vista. With our membership we can reserve and take out boats from any of these harbors, any day of the week. This month we have taken out a ski boat, fishing boat, zodiac, and pontoon boat with a slide. With reciprocal Clubs around the US and World, we can also take out a boat from EACH harbor FOUR times a YEAR! We have already taken a boat out on San Francisco bay and have another boat reserved in Chicago for a trip we have planned in August!
What is the cost? I can't quote you prices, but I can tell you the initiation fee was around what we wanted to put down on a boat, if only we could've agreed on the type of boat we wanted. The monthly dues are what a boat payment could be or less than a one day boat rental. The Club provides free trainings (we have been trained inside the bay and advanced open water). The best part is we hop in the fueled up boat when we leave the dock, and when we come back we hop back out and head home. We don't have to refuel, they take care of that for us for a small fee; wipe down the boat inside and out; put the boat in our out of the water; tow or store the boat. This is all included in our monthly dues. Our dues also cover insurance, but we purchased an additional policy so we wouldn't have to pay a deductible. It's the best Club we've joined and I know we are going to enjoy it for a long, long time.
If you have questions about it, please feel free to message us and we'll give you our honest opinion. For more information here's their website: https://www.freedomboatclub.com/ And if you decide to join, please tell them Rick and Lisa Kennealy recommended it. We are not getting paid for this review, but they do provide a referral incentive to members if you mentioned that we referred you.
ENJOY!
SIDE NOTE: As a stage four cancer patient who is always in treatment I have many side-effects and body changes. I will NEVER let these keep me from doing what I want to do if there is any way I can help it. I am claustrophobic from so many MRI/PET scans, so being outside with the wind in my hair helps me feel "free" and helps me breathe. I am also always a little bit queezy from my medications and being on the boat doesn't help that. Non-drowsy Dramamine and a sea sick patch are my best friends.
Each of our big cities have their own parks to maintain a place for nature, trees and plants. We often forget about these gems that we have right in our own back yards. My favorite big city parks are Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Balboa Park in San Diego, and Central Park in New York.
I've probably spent the most time in Central Park, because it's one of my favorite places to stroll during every season when we visit New York City. Walking through the "Mall" to the Angel Statute and on to the Boat House for lunch is one of my favorite walks. Or just grabbing a hot dog, some nuts and a pretzel and sitting by the water fall by the lake, or under a tree by the great lawn, is my idea of a relaxing afternoon in NYC before an evening at the theater. My favorite South Central Park quick walk is by the pond and Gapstow bridge. It is so photogenic any time of year.
Balboa Park in San Diego offers a multitude of museums and is also the home to the Globe Theater and the San Diego Zoo. Balboa Park Museums are open to San Diego residents for FREE on Tuesdays with a revolving schedule. Click here for more information and a calendar.
Golden Gate Park is also home to wonderful museums and a variety of smaller parks. My favorite is the Shakespeare garden at Golden Gate Park. I remember visiting during Covid and it was so tranquil. Shakespeare is also the love of my eldest daughter so, it's also a very special place that brings her harmony.
What your favorite big city parks? Send me a message, tell me about it and include a picture. Maybe I'll use it in a future artic
